«Requiem » for three repealed laws.
The new Archives Law of 3 January, 1979, repeals three laws of the French Révolution period which were still extant until then : Decree of 17 September, 1790, organising the Archives nationales as «the repository of all documents relating to the Constitution of the Kingdom » ; law of 7 Messidor Year II / 25 June, 1794, making the Archives nationales «the common centre of all archive repositories of the Republic » ; law of 5 Brumaire Year V / 26 October, 1796, creating the Archives départementales. All these dispositions are now included in new Law or in the decrees for its enforcement.
